LGBTQ+ History Month Gif

In this project, I designed a gif for Quinnipiac University to use across digital and social platforms to mark LGBTQ+ History Month. I was responsible for bringing the project from concept to completion and ensuring it met the specifications for each platform.

Final Design

Brief

The goal of this project was to create imagery celebrating LGBTQ+ History month for Quinnipiac University that could be used across social media and on their website. It needed to be visually interesting, ideally a gif, and consistent with other brand content.

Ideation & Exploration

To begin, I did research on the different aspects of LGBTQ+ History month to get a better idea of what visuals would provide the best support. I also researched how Quinnipiac University and other higher education institutions have represented events like this in the past.

Design Process

I decided to do the evolution of the price flag because it is a highly recognizable symbol of LGBTQ+ culture and has been redesigned twice since its original creation in 1978. I also find it to be symbolic of the evolution of LGBTQ+ culture and recognition. The flag changes as the community grows, becoming more inclusive and diverse. One of the best ways to demonstrate that evolution is through history.

I wanted to keep the graphic informative but simple so I decided that the elements would remain mostly stagnant because the colors alone would be very visually interesting. To remain consistent with branding guidelines, I used York Hill Sky Blue as the background, one of Quinnipiac’s three identity colors, and Portrait Q, one of the two brand typefaces.

I created the animation in AfterEffects and used the track matte feature to reveal the words “QU Celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month.”

Results

I exported the final product as a gif in three sizes so that it could be used on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and on the website. Click each image to view the live post.
